Email support@meibomedia.com. It’s read by the person who wrote the app, so expect a real answer — and a day or two, not a minute.

Reporting a bug? The three things that make it fixable: what you tapped, what you expected, and what happened instead. Add your phone model and whether you’re on iPhone or Android, and a screenshot if there’s anything to see.

Common questions

Where is my catalogue stored?

On your phone, in the app’s own storage. There is no account and no server copy — which is why the export below matters.

How do I back it up?

Export from the app and send the files somewhere that isn’t the phone — email them to yourself, drop them in cloud storage, anything. You get four CSV files (your items, loans, play history and tracklists) and, separately, an archive of any photos you have added. The CSVs are your catalogue in plain text, readable in any spreadsheet.

Keep all four together. Restoring with only some of them restores only what they contain.

How do I get a backup back in?

Settings has a restore, and pictures are restored separately from their archive.

Restore replaces, it does not merge. It clears what is in the app and puts the backup in its place. On a new phone that is exactly what you want. On a phone you have been using, anything added since that backup is gone — so export first, every time, even if you only did it yesterday.

I got a new phone. How do I move my collection?

Export on the old phone, install Meibo on the new one, restore the four CSVs, then restore the pictures archive. Cover art re-downloads on demand, so it does not need to come with you.

A look-up found the wrong item, or nothing at all

Look-ups come from Discogs for music, Google Books for books, TMDB for film and TV, and RAWG for video games — and they’re only as complete as those catalogues are. Pressings and regional editions are where they’re thinnest, and a book’s barcode is often not in Google’s index even when the book is. If the barcode finds nothing, Meibo falls back to searching the title and author for you.

Every field a look-up fills is editable, and you can always enter an item by hand. Comics and board games are entered by hand always — there is no look-up service for them yet.

Does Meibo work offline?

Yes, apart from look-ups. Your catalogue and its cached cover art are on the device, so browsing, searching, editing and lending all work with no signal.

Can I use it on two devices?

Not as a synced pair — there’s no server, so there’s nothing to sync through. You can move a catalogue between devices by exporting and restoring, but treat one device as the real one. Two phones edited independently will drift apart, and a restore replaces rather than merges, so there is no way to reconcile them afterwards.

Who has my copy of something?

Every item keeps a full loan history, not just the current borrower. Items that are out are badged in the list and can be filtered on.

What should I play tonight?

There’s a screen for that. Pick a media type and roll for something at random, or narrow it down first — by genre, by decade, by how recently you added it, or by how long it’s been since you last put it on. Anything you’ve lent out is left out, since you don’t have it to hand.

Is my data sold or shared?

No. Nothing about your collection leaves the device. See the privacy policy for the detail, including exactly what a look-up sends.

Can I delete everything?

Deleting the app removes the database, the cached covers and the photos in it. Export first if you want to keep any of it.

Still stuck

Feature requests are welcome too — a fair amount of what’s in the app got there that way.
